Centering Donor Consent: An Analysis of Archival Donor Forms and Best Practices

ABSTRACT
Reasonable, mutually beneficial, and fair agreements gives rise to fruitful partnerships and the strengthening of trust. In the field of archives, trust building and upkeep lays the foundation for many archival endeavors with donors playing a key role in sustaining archival spaces through their archival donations. Donor forms represent one of the most crucial tools used by archivists for engaging with donors, but do these forms actually facilitate ethical exchanges? This investigation by utilizing a feminist ethics of care and radical empathy framework alongside principles of consent examined archival best practices and donor forms to better understand how archival relationships help center donor needs and improve the archival praxis.
